I have written about Socialcast before (see - Socialcast Brings Twitter Style Functionality into the Enterprise). IT provides the micro-blogging capabilities found within Twitter in a form that is optimized for enterprise use. It continues to evolve their platform to help employees aggregate, organize and broadcast information throughout the enterprise. Recently, the company announced additional features to their SaaS platform, including Gmail integration and an iPhone-optimized site. The iPhone-optimized version of Socialcast allows users to engage in their corporate communities while away from a computer. I have friends with iPhones and they are getting more tempting as more applications migrate to the platform. You can see some iPhone examples below.

The Gmail plug-in works with the Firefox browser and once downloaded, provides a sidebar of Socialcast activity inside the user’s inbox. This allows users to open and respond to emails while maintaining visibility into happenings of the community. Socialcast╒s integration with Jabber gives employees an easy way to update Worklog and Status posts within their community via a community-specific instant messaging bot. Additional upgrades to Socialcast include a bookmarklet for quick URL sharing, integration with the Vimeo video service, and the ability to attach MP3 files to posts inside the community. You can see a sample Gmail Socialcast screen below.

There is an expanding market riding on the popularity of Twitter and the need for more enterprise friendly versions of micro-messaging. See also posts on Qik.com, Yammer, and Present.ly. I imagine that many enterprise 2.0 tools will be announcing support for the iPhone. Apple has reported that over 1 million units of the latest release of the iPhone 3G device were sold in the first few days it was made available. Worklight, the security offering, is another to do this recently.
