Very intersting anlysis you have there Matt Hodgson. I have to look at this book. An older tradition where culture is involved on a more broader scale is books like In search of the new working class were Duncan Gallie is comparing organisations in UK and France and finds a lot of difference in hirarchy, class struggle and more. Also, note Cristel Lane's book Managment and labour in Europe where she compares Germany, Britain and France and finds large difference, even in Europe.
