PBWiki Adds Four New Features and Changes Its Name to PB Works

by Bill Ives

PBwiki provides a wiki-based collaboration platform in three flavors: business, academic, and personal. I have written about them before on this blog (see PBwiki Enhances Its Document Management Capabilities). They have now changed the name to “PBworks Inc.”, reflecting their product evolution to a full-featured hosted collaboration environment.

Now they have also added new features to help organize and share information on a PBWiki wiki. They heard from clients that as a wiki expands, it becomes harder to find and track content: both wiki pages and files. This is their response that includes some useful features.

Starred pages allows you to bookmark wiki pages and create a personal folder of information that is most important.

Selective Notifications enables you to customize your notifications to monitor only your starred pages. It allows you stay up to date at your own speed and avoid notification overload. There are four levels: No notifications for this workspace; only notify me about changes to Starred Pages; only notify me about changes to Starred Pages and newly added items (new pages and files) and notify me about all changes to this workspace.

Navigator allows you to quickly navigate to any folder, and browse all pages on your wiki. The Navigator also gives you a quick way to view your Starred Pages.

Send a link enables you to let other members of your team know that that you have updated the workspace, or to call them to review, comment, or edit the page. When you are done updating the page, click “send a link.”
