UPDATE #1: I just had another look at Manymoon and was pleased to see there is now a global search field. "Global" meaning it will search across all objects: Projects, Tasks, etc.

UPDATE #2: On the About page at manymoon.com (see links in footer of their pages), they also now say who they are .

UPDATE #3: Finding links to submit a question to what appears to be a Zendesk-based support desk is now easier, too. (Still no public forums though)

UPDATE #4: It seems a backup or export option is in the works.
Therefore I'll be taking another look at Manymoon .... but I'll stop hijacking Bill's article here and will just post back with a link to my own findings

Apparently the users of ManyMoon don't expect much. As long as they can get to their social apps, email, and pretend to be productive... they are good to go. I'm glad I wasn't counting on this 'fantastic app' for anything. The number of things obvious 'must haves' missing is too long to list.

It's really sad that we've come to a place where ANY software...as long as it runs on the web... is considered 'powerful.'

I agree with Ilyse.

I was playing around with ManyMoon last night and while it's just as good as Basecamp (if not better!), the omission of search and exporting data is a major hindrance.

Also, like Ilyse mentioned, their FAQ/help system needs major reworking.

On the plus side, it's basically free if you use Google Apps. Email-to-task is a nice feature, but we don't need that at all. Ditto for time-tracking. So if you're looking to save $50 / month from Basecamp, I'd recommend it.

I also really liked manymoon upon first looking at it. It was only after a whole day of moving tasks over from spreadsheet rows, emails, and legal pads that I noticed:

There is no search feature!

Say you have a project that has now accrued 80 or 100 tasks. You need to attach a spreadsheet template to a "finalize timesheet template" task. How does on find the task? One has to memorize the project->milestone path, if one happened to connect the task to a milestone, in order to drill down. If one did not connect the task to a milestone, good luck, one is staring an one huge long page and depends on page searching in the browser hoping to find the task in question.

I'm not sure how this glaring omission has survived this long, unless folks just don't have as many tasks on their plates as our small org.

Another problem: No export of data. Makes me uncomfortable in terms of risk management to have no xml (or at least csv) export of our data. I don't care how many times a day _they_ back it up, _we_ need a copy of our own data. Further, on the web site the company offers no address, no phone number, no forums, and does not name its principals. It took a Google search to find out "who is Manymoon".

The developer(s) seem very capable and all in all I really like where this product is headed. I have submitted to him/them all of the above observations in the form of Feedback items within Manymoon or as emails to customerservice@manymoon.com (they also really bury that address!)

I wish Manymoon the best of luck and will check back now and then to see if these issues have been improved, but for now they are show stoppers for me. Once again after months of searching for and evaluating project/task mgmt titles, I come full circle back to Central Desktop, where I can search across all objects in all workspaces I'm a member of for a string. This includes full-text searching of documents. And CD has active forums, publishes their roadmap, and their support is incredibly responsive.
