Definitive List of Brands and Organizations on Twitter

by Anita Campbell

Some industrious soul has taken the time (along with community help) to create a long list of companies, government agencies, nonprofits and other organizations on Twitter.

It is one impressive list!

From media companies to consumer companies to sports teams to airlines to charities to universities — you name it, you’ll find it.

The list is contained on a blog, so if you know of others not on the list, you can add suggestions in the comments field over at:  Twitter Brand Index.

And here are two tips for companies and organizations not yet on Twitter — listen up:

  • Tip #1:  find comparable organizations on this list, study how they are using Twitter to identify best practices (and avoid worst practices).  Then consider setting up a Twitter account for your organization.
  • Tip #2:  register a Twitter account in your company name even if you are not ready to use Twitter.  That way you can reserve the name and prevent an “unauthorized” account from profiting off of your brand on Twitter.

Geez, that is an enourmous list! I was very surprised to find one of my local news stations listed on there.
